Who For, Where and When

These workshops are particularly popular with school groups, both primary and secondary, but individuals and other groups can also be accommodated. They take place in a gallery or other exhibition space wherever and whenever I’m holding a show of my work. Currently, much of the week I am based on the beautiful Dartington estate outside Totnes at Arts Lab.

What We Do

  • A leisurely tour of a live exhibition of paintings by a local artist (myself)
  • Discuss in pairs favourite and least favourite pieces in the show and why
  • Think of and write down your own titles for the paintings, sharing them with the group
  • Create body shapes/sculptures and sounds/music responding to a chosen painting
  • Interview the artist with questions about subject matter and how the pieces were made
  • Draw rough sketches in charcoal of your favourite painting
  • Create your own mixed media collage interpretation of your favourite painting
  • Create entirely your own mixed media collage based on elements learnt from the day
  • Discuss/critique each others’ exhibition of new work

What’s Been Said

“Sara encourages students to experiment and express themselves thoughtfully. I would highly recommend her ….”

Tim Wightman – Head of Art at KEVICC, Totnes

“Sara has been an inspiration to students on the BEd Art and Design specialist pathway at Plymouth University bringing ‘fresh eyes’ to approaches that engage learners in developing visual art processes. What the art education students really like is Sara’s practical, ‘hands-on’ approach to workshops led with energy and enthusiasm! How exciting to be learning through actively exploring art and design practice together with Sara and in new and creative ways while developing an understanding of her colourful and innovative mixed-media artwork.”

Sadie Medway – Lecturer in Education (Art and Design), Plymouth Institute of Education
