Good as Gold

“Sara’s pieces sing.”
Stephen Hough (New York & London )
In this series, employing my usual technique of mixed media collage on paper, and combining a propensity for the circle
motif and irregularly-shaped formats, I’ve added the use of thick, gold oil paint. The gold is alluring whilst also toning down the heightened colour in the work, giving a more neutral, harmonious effect. Depending on how light falls on the piece, I also like the way the gold can be read as an entirely different colour – black, brown, white or beige.
All my titles are a playful and intuitive response to the finished paintings; they come at the end. The hope, however, is that the work stands for itself for the viewer to make his or her own interpretation.
