Who For and Where

These sessions are for carers, family, friends and individuals affected by or recovering from mental health issues. The two-hour long workshops take on up to eight participants at any one time and are held in my home in South Brent. They are also currently running at Arts Lab Dartington.

If you would prefer, the workshops can be portable; I can come to you wherever you are with my box of materials and equipment.

What We Do

In a warm, safe and welcoming environment, we drink tea or coffee, chat and get stuck into a range of activities. From still life drawing to intuitive, abstract painting and collage, you will be encouraged to be free and have fun exploring, using your imagination and thinking out of the usual box. Experimenting with a variety of art materials and techniques, the sessions are very much participant led, with guidance from myself and a new challenge each week. Much of the work is based on individual responses to music, nature, my own paintings and the work of each other and other artists. Creating at times collaboratively, in small groups and independently, the pace varies and embraces what those in the room want to follow or express on the day. Why

I am increasingly interested in working with those in the local community I believe can directly benefit from my approach to doing and making. With inclusivity and collaboration at the core, increased confidence and general wellbeing are fostered. By having a regular activity in a familiar place with familiar faces, experience has proven that these workshops also reduce a sense of isolation and otherwise hard-to-reach clients. A shared enjoyment of making and creating in a neutral, but supportive environment without prejudice or judgement, helps to strengthen the community and family and friendship connections. We ALL really look forward to our sessions at Stockbridge Cottage.
