Who For and Where

These sessions are about building and strengthening family bonds through a shared and fun experience of making the type of art which anyone can do. Parents, carers, children, siblings – any family members old enough to hold a paintbrush are welcome.

The workshops last two hours – weekly or a one-off – and can be held at either Arts Lab Dartington, or my home and studio in South Brent or at a place of your choosing.

What We Do

  • Enjoy coming together in a warm, safe, welcoming and fun environment
  • Take part in a variety of shared creative activities
  • Explore, experiment and play freely with a range of art materials
  • Using your imagination, have fun responding through paint and collage to music, nature, live examples of my own paintings and the work of each other
  • Have the freedom to work together on a large scale on expanses of paper with pots of brightly coloured paint – big brushes, potato and hand prints, etc.
  • The sessions are very much participant led with guidance from myself. Creating at times collaboratively, in small groups and independently, the pace varies and embraces what those in the room want to follow or express on the day.

I believe that the shared, fun experience of making and doing art, strengthens family connections and reduces a sense of isolation. With inclusivity and collaboration at the core, increased confidence and general wellbeing are also fostered.

I have a genuine interest in people and supporting them to feel at ease with themselves, each other and in their environment. As a single parent of three teenagers and an experienced art facilitator for all ages, I understand well the parent-child dynamic. Working and playing together in a supportive, creative environment without prejudice or judgement works wonders.

What’s Been Said

“…we both thought you were fabulous and absolutely the right person to lead these workshops!”

Laura Denning – Engagement Co-ordinator, Plymouth Arts Centre

“They loved being able to let their children loose with art materials. They enjoyed getting ‘arty’ with their children. All of the mums said that they would love to see more groups like this.”

Assistant at “Creative Play” – Tamar Folk at The Barn, Barne Barton, Plymouth

“…a HUGE thank you for running the sessions. I’m really pleased that you persisted and found some enthusiastic families to join the fun and I hope you know that we really do appreciate all of your hard work.”

Vickie Fear – Programme Co-ordinator, Plymouth Arts Centre

“George has been on tremendous form – very expressive and talkative. Brilliant! Your workshops have been the turning point. So many thanks.”

“Thank you so much for the inspirational workshops. George and I are so enjoying the sessions. They are the best thing to have happened since his relapse nine years ago. He has been in denial for so long … . Up till now he has been unable to communicate with others suffering or recovering from mental illness, or anyone else for that matter. He is also so pleased to be with younger people as the other things he does are all with the elderly.”
